The terminology of how we address addiction has changed over time to reduce the stigma...But I'm not sure that stigma is the issue anymore. I believe DENIAL is the issue that's blocking people from getting recovery.
To know if someone is TRULY addicted to drugs or alcohol, you have to understand the differences between these three categories:
SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER
Dependency is different than actual addiction to drugs or alcohol. Heavy use or abuse, doesn't even necessarily mean that someone is addicted.
