Why Addicts and Alcoholics Lie (What to do about it)

Why Addicts and Alcoholics Lie (What to do about it)

There are 3 main types of lies people with substance abuse disorders or alcoholism usually tell.

  1. Instinctual lying

  2. Lying to avoid being shamed

  3. Self-denial/deception

When someone is in active addiction lying almost becomes a way of life. And sometimes, not just lying about big things. People with a substance abuse disorder or alcoholism will lie about the littlest things, for no reason whatsoever. There is a way for your loved one to tell the truth again. It's going to require help from you! You HAVE to discern why the lying is happening and what you should do about it.
